We believe in a triple bottom line approach to Sustainable Design, in which economic, environmental, and social factors are all considered. As architects we are already professionals practicing stewardship of or client’s budget as it realtes to design decisions. Considering the health of building occupants and the environment is a way to make a building last for the long term and for the economic investment to pay off. We have found that instituting this additional design thinking is easy when we are able to think like our clients and users, to put ourselves in their shoes. Not only is the hospital room able to improve the health of the recovering patient, we believe that the office space, classroom, stairway, or auditorium can also be designed to provide the same benefits when the designer is able to think like those who will be using each of these spaces. This empathic method along with experience and research, creates long-lasting and successful solutions for our clients.
