Ridge Elementary School Addition and Renovation
Scott Kyle, Project Manager/Designer (while with BCWH Architects)
Mr. Kyle was the project manager/designer as part of a team that included a principal-in-charge, two intern architects, and an interior designer. Through a 6,000 square foot addition/renovation and reconfiguration of the 45,000 sf school, a healthier and more efficient and successful interior teaching environment was achieved. The dramatic programmatic changes provided an opportunity to improve several areas of the school.
A new entrance for parents and teachers was created allowing the cafeteria to be reconfigured to better allow after-school programs and improve circulation. The media center was enlarged and relocated to this new entrance, providing display space and encouraging greater collaboration among parents and teachers. A new circulation hub was created with the addition of three classrooms, relieving congestion and improving program adjacencies. New electrical, data, plumbing, and air conditioning systems improved the school’s energy budget and appearance, and, along with carefully redesigned exterior windows, enhanced students’ productivity as well as the workplace for teachers and staff.
